Every piece on this site was made by hand in the studio. No transfers, no assistants, no digital enlargements passed off as paintings.
About the studio
Fourteen years, one barn, a lot of scraped-back canvases.
I am Ines Varga. I started painting full time in 2012, in the upstairs of a dairy barn outside Millbrook Crossing that came with north light and no heat. The first few years were straight landscape. Then the horizon started sliding around, the color got louder than the place it came from, and the work turned into what it is now.
There are 12 finished pieces here across 3 series, plus the commissions, which take about a third of the year. Everything is painted slowly and none of it leaves the studio until it can hold a room on its own.

Materials that outlast me
Belgian linen, rabbit-skin size, artist-grade oils and cotton rag paper. It costs more per canvas and it means the color is still true in fifty years.

One price, on the label
What is on the checklist is what you pay, in the studio or on the site. No collector tiers, no quiet discounts, no haggling.

You can change your mind
Take a work home for a week. If it is wrong on your wall, bring it back and we will find the right one instead.
The practice
Mornings on paper, afternoons on linen.
The day starts outside with a block of cotton rag and a small box of gouache. Those become the Field Notes pieces, and most of them fail, which is the point. Whatever survives the walk home goes on the wall for a week.
The large paintings happen after lunch, thin layer over thin layer, usually four or five weeks each. Two or three get scraped back to the linen for every one that makes it onto this site.
